KILLER TIPS ON HOW TO ACE AN INTERVIEW
1. FIRST CLEAN UP YOUR SOCIAL MEDIA TO ACE AN INTERVIEW
I know this sounds a little bit off-topic or not so important point but sometimes when you apply for a job, the company checks your social media account first before taking your interview.
Suppose they have 20 candidates and they check your social media account like your Facebook account, and they see that you’re posting abusive or racist posts then this will leave a negative impact on your image.
They might think that you can talk abusively with the clients too.
So, before applying for a job make sure to check your social media accounts, and make sure to remove the abusive posts, racist, or anything against the policies.
2. CLEAN UP YOUR RESUME TO ACE AN INTERVIEW
Cleaning up and making your resume neat and clean is an important thing to do. If you want to ace an interview then first you to create a eye-catching or attractive resume.
I have seen many resume/ CV which are so messy and some of them are straight copy-pasted from the internet.
You’ll have many days or maybe weeks to create a CV. It takes 30–50 minutes to prepare a professional resume.
Tips to make your resume look more professional are — Avoid grammatical mistakes and errors in your resume.
Do your research about the company and then make your resume according to the needs and motive of the company.
Take help from the internet. Look for some simple and attractive templates.
Don’t put all of your projects on the resume. It’ll be better if you have put projects that are related to that company. Add only relevant points to your resume.
Keep in mind to not put unnecessary things on your resume. Don’t repeat things, and don’t put lame things like I was the monitor of my class in 6th standard.
Preparing and creating a simple yet beautiful resume is also a skill.
Take some help from the internet, search for some beautiful and simple CV templates, and take inspiration from them. Avoid the mistake to copy the whole resume.
The resume consists of your qualifications and talents. Without a resume, it is difficult for an employer to hire.
A good resume assembles a good impression of the applicant. Your CV plays a crucial role if you want to ace an interview.
And last but not least. Revise your resume, do this more than 5 times before sitting for an interview.
3. KNOW HOW TO SELL YOURSELF
Here I don’t mean put yourself in the auction and let your employer buy you. Or put a price on you and put yourself on sale.
Selling is an excellent skill, which allows you to make huge profits by huge sales. And if you want to ace your interview to get that job, you have to sell yourself first.
Tell the interviewer why you’re best for this job and tell them why they should hire you instead of others.
To sell you or to get the jobs first know the requirements of the employer. Be in the employer’s shoes and see what they want and what kind of skills and ideas they are looking for. There’s no need to tell them all your ideas. Tell them only relevant ideas which will help their company.
Tell them why hiring you will benefit them for their company’s growth.
The employer is not going to give you the job because you need it. He or she will hire you because they need you. If you represent yourself as a better person for work, then it will be a win-win for you.
4. DO YOUR RESEARCH
Before going for an interview, do your homework. Go through the Internet and research about the company and the CEO or the owner of the company. This will really help you a lot to ace an interview.
Before you go for an interview make sure to research the company, about the CEO, about the company’s history, motive and research the position that you’re looking for. This is going to help to step one level above other guys.
For knowing about a position, I’ll recommend you to use google but for researching about companies go to glassdoor.com to read reviews from employees and from people who worked for a company.
Learn about the founder and co-founder of the company. Know about the motive and purpose of that company and tell them how your motive relates to the company’s motive.
Now, you don’t have to tell them that you know everything about the company.
Research is important because if you know how the Company works and how it’ll do better in the future then you can know if this is the right place for you to work or not.
If you’re interested in gadgets and technologies and the company you’re applying for is about technology then you can easily them that you are interested in gadgets and technologies and you know a lot about this market.
This will decrease your stress and nervousness.
5. COME PREPARED WITH QUESTIONS
I know that in an interview you have to answer the question that your interviewer asks you. But don’t forget it is you who is going to work with them. So, don’t hesitate to put up questions.
When you’ll ask questions it will show them that you’re also interested in the work or in the position that’s why you want to clear up things.
Now don’t question everything, by questioning everything you’re going to irritate them.
Ask them questions like “What are the opportunities I’ll get If I push my limits?”
This type of question will impress them and they will think that you’re not here only for money but you’re interested in the job and the position also and you’re ready to face challenges and willing to take things to next level.
These are the qualities they look for in a person for hire.
6. COME UP PREPARED WITH BEHAVIORAL INTERVIEW QUESTIONS
Behavioral interview questions are the questions in which you have to tell about your work and project like how you handled your projects, responsibilities in summary or in short.
Tell them about your whole experience and what you learned from that experience and how you improve yourself.
They can ask anything like “Tell us about a situation in which you were under so much pressure, how did you handle it and what was the lesson you learned from it?”
I want to answer these types of questions without any hesitation then you have to be prepared and come up with practice.
Make stories in your mind about situations in which you were under so much pressure but you managed to handle it and come up with a solution.
Now, it’ll be a lot better if you make at least 2–3 different stories.
7. COME WITH YOUR PAD-FOLIO/NOTEBOOK AND PEN
Bring your rewritten notes, questions, and doubts with you. And if you have written proof from a company about your work or something like that then don’t forget to bring that with you.
By doing this, it’ll give a signal that you’re dedicated and interested in that job and work. And it also allows you to come prepared with your research and questions.
8. DO PRACTICE TO ACE AN INTERVIEW
If you really want to how to ace an interview and if you really want to get that job then Practice is the answer. The practice is mandatory in every field. No matter what thing are you doing, practice is important.
If you are in the sports field, then practice is what will make you better athletes, if you are in the mathematical or doctor field then practice is what will make you better.
Before going for an interview make sure you practice everything like your walk, tone, voice, way of talking, hand gestures, and your answers, etc.
Practice everything in front of the mirror or in front of your family member or friend. Go through your CV, store everything in your brain, every question and every answer, and practice them in front of the mirror.
Or take help from your parents or your friends, they’ll act as a recruiter by asking you questions or basically by interviewing you. Do a mock interview. This will give you confidence and decrease your stress and tension.
9. KEEP A POSITIVE BODY LANGUAGE
Always remember, in an interview first impression is everything. It can give you the job or it can take the job from you. We can know how the person is by reading their body language.
If you say that you’re a very positive person but you are talking rudely and giving them death stares then they’ll reject you.
When you open the door, and when you are entering the room and sit on the chair, the person who is going to take your interview notices you very well.
Don’t cross your arms or your legs while sitting in front of the employer.
So, to ace an interview always maintain eye contact in a good and polite way while talking and move your hands in a good way. Avoid talking very fast and sit and talk respectfully. Talk in a very decent tone. Don’t talk too loud and too quiet.
Your body language can tell many things about you. If you’re avoiding eye contact then this will show that you’re not confident.
And if you’re sitting disrespectfully or slam the door while opening and closing it, this will show that you’re a disrespectful person.
10. BE ENGAGING
When you go for an interview, engage with people, talk to everyone nicely, and interact with people working there. Interact even with the secretary.
I have seen that newbies or fresher usually don’t interact with the secretary or with anyone, they just sit in the waiting line watching YouTube or their phone.
Well, this doesn’t leave a good impression, because after the interview the secretary mostly talks to the person who took your interview about your behavior.
So, if you are in the waiting room or have some time before the interview then tries to avoid this mistake and try to talk or interact with people nicely.
I’m not suggesting you should go and disturb them while they are busy with their work, but at least ask them how is there day going? And etc.
11. WEAR PROPER UNIFORM OR WELL TAILORED CLOTHES
Before approaching for an interview, consider wearing formal attire. So,wear a clean and fit uniform. Who will like you if you wear untidy and dirty clothes?
Looks do matters and your dressing sense and grooming sense tells many things about you.
Always go for formal uniforms. Some of the companies don’t have strict rules for wearing formals but formal ones leave a good image on every one.
Wear clean and polished shoes. If you’re wearing a tie then make sure to wear it properly.
If you want to ace an interview then before approaching for an interview, consider wearing formal attire.
What you wear and how you look really matters when you go for an interview. I’ll recommend you to wear well stitched and well-fitted suit for an interview. Now don’t wear colors like yellow, pink or green, avoid these colors and go for black, grey or royal blue.
But what if you don’t have a suit? Then don’t worry, suits are not mandatory, you can wear nice formal clothes like a well-fitted shirt and trousers. And if the company environment is for the tee, jeans, or casual wear, then go with casual wear.
And for ladies, I’ll recommend you also to wear a suit or formal attire.
It doesn’t matter if you’re a male or a female. Just make sure that you dress well for the situation.
14. BE ON TIME
If you want to ace an interview then one thing you have to keep in mind is that you have to be there on time. If you go late on your first day or your interview then it’ll show how irresponsible you are and how careless you are.
Doesn’t matter if you were stuck in a traffic jam or an alien kidnapped you. The interviewer simply doesn’t care about your reasons and excuses. So, be on time it’ll put a positive impact.
